Frank–Caro process Wikipedia
The Frank–Caro process, also called cyanamide process, is the nitrogen fixation reaction of calcium carbide with nitrogen gas in a reactor vessel at about 1,000°C. The reaction is exothermic and selfsustaining once the reaction temperature is reached. Originally the reaction took place in large steel cylinders with an electrical resistance element providing initial heat to start the reaction.

What Is Industrial Fixation? |
Manufacturers have three forms of industrial fixation from which to choose, the most common of which is the Haber or HaberBosch process. It involves heating nitrogen and hydrogen in a pressurized vessel with iron as a catalyst. The reaction produces ammonia, which is useful for plants and ultimately those organisms that consume them. A second option is the cyanamide process. The manufacturer ...

What Is Fixed Nitrogen or Nitrogen Fixation?
Haber or HaberBosch process The Haber process or HaberBosch process is the most common commercial method of nitrogen fixation and ammonia production. The reaction was described by Fritz Haber, earning him the 1918 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and adapted for industrial use early in the 20th century by Karl Bosch.

Nitrogen Fixation an overview | ScienceDirect .
Nitrogen fixation is a highly energydemanding process, since the nitrogenase enzymes (both Mocontaining and Moindependent systems) have an absolute requirement for ATP and the reduction of 1 mole of N 2 to ammonia utilizes (at least) 16 moles of ATP. Therefore, diazotrophic bacteria tightly regulate synthesis and actitivity of nitrogenase, in response to a number of environmental factors ...

Dicyandiamide The Chemical Company
Dicyandiamide from The Chemical Company is used in fertilizer formulations as a slow/continuous release nitrogen source. There are two major ways in which nitrogen is lost from soil – denitrification and leeching. Denitrification is loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere. Leeching is when nitrogen is washed from soil through rain or irrigation. Dicy has been shown to prevent nitrogen loss ...

The Ammonia Oxidation Process for Nitric Acid .
It is little more than fifty years since the first manufacture of nitric acid by the oxidation of ammonia over a platinum catalyst. Ostwald''s original industrial plant had an output of some 100 tons of acid a year; today the world capacity for nitric acid manufacture by this process is about ten million tons a year. This article traces the beginnings and early developments of the process ...

"NITROGEN FIXATION ).Important progress was made after 1910 in the commercial fixation of nitrogen for industrial use. The economic importance of nitrogen fixation is to be found in the possibility of preparing fertilizers from the air, in place of being dependent on the nitrate deposits of Chile, or on ammonia obtained by the carbonization of coal.

Calcium Cyanamide Nitrogen
The direct fixation of nitrogen is brought about by heating the powdered calcium carbide in an atmosphere of nitrogen: CaC 2 + N 2 = CaNCN + C. As in other fixation processes, one of the most important points with the cyanamide process is the purity of the reacting substances. Thus the initial raw material limestone must contain about 97 per cent, of calcium carbonate with relatively small ...

Nitrogen fixation Wikipedia
Nitrogen fixation is a process by which molecular nitrogen in the air is converted into ammonia (NH 3) or related nitrogenous compounds in soil. Atmospheric nitrogen is molecular dinitrogen, a relatively nonreactive molecule that is metabolically useless to all but a few nitrogen fixation converts N 2 into ammonia, which is metabolized by most organisms.
